Speleotherapy and Halotherapy

Himalayan salt

Speleotherapy is a therapy where people spend a few hours a day across 2-3 months in a natural salt mine breathing in  cave air saturated with particles of rock salt.  This is prevalent in Eastern Europe and Russia.  

Halotherapy is the simulation of a natural salt mine where the walls and floor are covered with salt and the temperature and humidity is controlled to mimic the micro-climate of the natural environment of the underground cavern.

The halogenerator is a type of nebuliser into which 99.9% pure grade pharmaceutical salt in ground into very fine particles and emitted into the air of the halochamber (salt room) during the session.  The halogenerator has various programmes designed to suit the clients in the halochamber, based on their age, condition and severity of ailment.  The salt particles emitted by the halogenerator, along with the micro-climate in the halochamber, sets the right conditions for clients to benefit from halotherapy.

Salt has been used since ancient times in food preservation.  In more recent times salty sea air has been hailed as being reviving and cleansing.

In reality, salt has many healing properties.  

It is an anti-inflammatory, able to reduce inflammation in the respiratory tract and muscles.

Salt's anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties can attack bacteria in mucus and skin.

The anti-histamine in salt can help reduce histamine levels in the body to reduce symptoms of hay fever and other respiratory allergies.

The negative ions in salt can help increase serotonin levels in the body.
